Owner of Steers is one of those who, coming from the Old Country, has found and taken advantage of the opportunities here in Canada. Transport, Mr. Steers �Born December 12, 1907, at Brighton, England, he is the son of William and Nancy (Gunn) Steers. His parents came to Canada while he was a boy and he received his education in the Public Schools "at Guelph, Ont. The family moved from Guelph to Welland in 1920, where our subject continued in school for awhile and then entered the employ of Page-Hersey Tubes Limited for a period of two years. He later started in the transport business with his father (1927), taking over the business completely in 1934. Mr. Steers operates four trucks and trailers throughout the Province of Ontario under Class C license in haulage for the PageHersey Tubes Limited, volume amounting in recent years to about 200,000 tons per year. On June 7, 1929, Mr. Steers married the former Effie Lillian Gohm and they have two sons, Thomas Harold and Robert Douglas, both in their father’s employ. Mr. Steers is a keen sportsman and is apt to be found, during the hunting seasons, fishing and hunting. For his vacation he favours the Muskoka Lakes district, particularly Bala, and is well known around Bobcageon. The trucking and transport business has become an important one, and with the improvement of the highways in the Province of Ontario, continues to grow by leaps and bounds. It is due to the efficiency of Steers Transport that their services have beer demanded exclusively by the Page-Hersey Tubes Limited, one of the major industries in the Niagara Peninsula.
