Here Louis discusses the importance of the humorist Artemus Ward (1834–1867) who is considered the first stand-up comedian and influenced Mark Twain.
In his 1959 obituary Duff was described as an “Eminent historian, inimitable humorist, and an after dinner speaker par excellence... a man of many parts. His career embraced the callings of county school teacher, newspaperman and publisher, bibliophile and financier."
